MAXFIT Gloves with New ThingloveTM Technology Delivers Amazing Performance in Braille Reading Test

Newark, Del. – Though rarely achieved, exceeding expectations is a goal of many companies, especially those developing innovative technologies. That is exactly what happened when O’Neill Innovations asked Sylvia Rider, a Braille instructor from a local center for the blind to attempt to read Braille while wearing their new general purpose glove, MAXFIT™ with ThingloveTM technology. “The results were truly amazing!” said Mark Provenzano, Vice President of Sales. “We developed ThingloveTM technology to fill the needs of a market lacking in what we determined was essential for a work glove - skin protection, comfort, dexterity and touch sensitivity. We had such positive results and testimonials regarding the gloves many benefits, especially the “touch factor” that we got the idea to push the limits and put the glove to the ultimate sensitivity test – reading Braille.” Sylvia, who was born blind, performed the testing. During the test she made a number of discoveries regarding the benefits of ThingloveTM technology.

The tactile Braille alphabet is a set of characters or cells arranged in one of 63 possible dot patterns consisting of one to six dots designed for reading by touch. Braille dots are typically embossed in either a heavy weight paper or a thin plastic and only protrude from the surface approximately 0.018” (0.45 mm). Paper Braille dots tend to flatten after continued use.

“Beginners have very heavy hands and they can literally read it flat the first or second time so I knew these would be the hardest of all to read” said Rider, “However, wearing these gloves, I was able to read Braille that had been read countless times”. “This is so rewarding, by engineering solutions that are in tune with peoples’ needs, Thinglove™ benefits have found new relevance in areas beyond our initial expectations” said Michael O’Neill, President of O’Neill Innovations.

MAXFIT™ with Thinglove TM technology, from O’Neill Innovations the leader in comfort, is a revolutionary new category of work glove engineered with an advanced proprietary technology that enables the fingertips to maintain a level of touch sensitivity not possible with bulky gloves. They offer skin protection along with comfort, fit, dexterity and grip.

MAXFIT™ Gloves Launched - press release

Newark, Del. – Everyone from industrial workers to delivery people – even gardeners and do-it-yourself home renovators can appreciate a really comfortable work glove. But most gloves are bulky, ill-fitting, uncomfortable and lack dexterity, grip and function. Consequently, they’re off and you’re forced to continue working without them, leaving your hands unprotected.

That’s why O’Neill Innovations created MAXFIT with Thinglove TM construction, a revolutionary new category of work glove. ThingloveTM technology was developed to achieve the fundamental requirements for a glove’s performance – the need for skin protection, comfort, dexterity and touch sensitivity

“These gloves are unlike anything else on the retail market,” said Michael O’Neill, President of O’Neill Innovations. “They are incredible products that provide an engineered solution to the need for a superior level of dexterity, function and comfort. You will forget you’re wearing them!”

MAXFIT glove’s advanced proprietary technology offers a skin-friendly alternative that does not contain latex, nitrile or man-made rubber – materials known to cause allergic reactions in some people. They also draw away perspiration and allow the hands to “breathe.”

Our coating gives MAXFIT gloves an excellent grip on smooth surfaces, including glass, boxes, furniture and more. The firm grip helps prevent injuries and reduces the likelihood of dropping items.

ThingloveTM technology’s lightweight construction allows precise movement and control for performing even the most delicate tasks and enables the fingertips to maintain a level of touch sensitivity not possible with bulky gloves.

Of course, the proof is in the wearing.

“We asked a Braille instructor from a local center for the blind to attempt to read Braille while wearing MAXFITTM gloves. The result was amazing!” said Mark Provenzano, Vice President of Sales. See the video of the actual Braille reading test

Ingenuity Is the Driving Force Behind Delaware Start-up O’Neill Innovations

Newark, Del. – The people at O’Neill Innovations thrive on using science and leading-edge technology to create significant improvements in the consumer benefits offered by existing products. For them, established methods resulting in incremental product improvements just aren’t exciting.

“Above all else, we’re innovators,” said company president Michael O’Neill. “It’s all about finding new, innovative ways to refresh and modernize products we all use.”

Founded in 2007, O’Neill Innovations is revitalizing the market for everyday products by using novel material science to eliminate problems customers despise but have resigned themselves to accept. That concept is the inspiration for the company’s first product, the MAXFIT work glove with Thinglove TM construction.

Due out this summer, the MAXFIT glove isn’t simply a redesign of an existing product; it’s a totally new category of work glove. Engineered with an advanced proprietary technology designed to be kind to the skin, MAXFIT’s Thinglove TM construction enables the fingertips to maintain a level of touch sensitivity not possible with bulky gloves. They provide incredible dexterity and grip, allowing precise movement and control for even the most delicate tasks.

“We’re working to bring new technology to market by thinking about things differently,” O’Neill said. “We want to use our knowledge and innovation to significantly improve value and benefits for customers.”

Inventing new technologies has long been a passion for both O’Neill and Mark Provenzano, the company’s vice president of sales.

As president of his previous company, O’Neill invented a proprietary technology currently used in a sports equipment product made by Spalding. He earned a degree in chemical engineering at The Queens University of Belfast in his native Ireland, and worked for DuPont in engineering, project management, and research and development. He also led several successful new business development ventures in semi-permeable polyurethane materials science, and he has created a number of patented products.

Provenzano’s nine years of experience as a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace industry honed his ability to find solutions to perplexing problems. With over 20 years of sales experience, his creative approach to fulfilling customers’ needs perfectly suits the company’s mission of using breakthrough technology to offer relevant business solutions.

The company firmly believes the customer comes first. “Meeting a customer’s needs by offering them the right solution and the best value is the key to mutual success”, said Mark Provenzano, Vice President of Sales.

While the company operates in the United States, their goal is to be recognized worldwide as an innovation leader.

MAXFIT gloves with Thinglove TM technology are just the beginning. O’Neill Innovations has developed proprietary technology for applications in other breakthrough products, including a revolutionary material for use in medical and sports applications and a unique shape memory structure that will add lightweight convenience and instant usability to products like mattresses, gymnasium/athletic mats and body armor.
